Felix M Arithmometer

The Felix Arithmometer is named after Felix Dzerzhinsky who founded the Soviet secret police force in 1917. While he wasn't the first to start producing mechanical calculators on an industrial scale in Russia (that honor goes to Odhner), Felix was able to make use of his political position and exert enough influence that his calculators became the most widespread mechanical calculators in the Soviet Union.

It was a great deal of fun to model and texture this prop! I used a non-destructive, modifier heavy workflow to set up a low poly (really it's more of a mid poly in terms of vertex count) that was then turned into a high poly through masking and polish by features in Zbrush. After I sculpted in additional dents and damage into the high poly, I UV unwrapped the low poly (making sure to maximize UV island stacking) and brought it all into Substance Painter where I baked the details down and textured. Marmoset Toolbag was used for the beauty renders.
